The Cooper Point Circle
Members of The Cooper Point Circle have provided for The Evergreen State College in their estate plans.
In making such a decision, they have reflected on the many organizations that have worthy missions, reviewed a lifetime’s accumulation of financial assets, and decided that the students and faculty of Evergreen are indeed worthy of their support. Most often, estate gifts create endowed assets which in perpetuity provide both financial underpinnings for the College’s mission as well as recognition for the donor.
Cooper Point refers to the geographic location of the campus.
An area in Olympia on the southern reach of the Puget Sound, this peninsula is bounded by Eld Inlet on the west and north with Budd Inlet to the east. The 1,000 acre campus includes buildings concentrated within a lush 100-acre area of mixed old growth and 100-year old hardwoods, evergreens, and forest plants. The north campus boundary along Eld Inlet provides direct access to the saltwater environment of the Puget Sound.
The Native Peoples referred to this land as Chah-KWAH-bux.
It was purchased by the State of Washington as the site for the College in 1968. As such, the land represents the permanence of the campus. And since endowments provide permanence and stability to the financial support of the work of students and faculty, it is fitting that those creating endowments are part of a group bearing the name of the land on which the college sits.
The purposes of The Cooper Point Circle are to:
- provide a means of ongoing communication with members regarding the activities and achievements of the College community
- promote fellowship among members because of their shared dedication to the College
- recognize members for their uncommon commitment to the future of the College
- provide contemporary information regarding changes in law or tax codes that may affect their choice of specific gift provisions to carry out their wishes
